Sam when we first got her, in 2006



Sam is our Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD). We had been thinking for quite some time about getting one, since the coyote population is on the rise. As fate often has it, we happened to come across a Pyr who needed a farm home with a job to do!

 

We picked her up from my father-in-law's in S.C, brought her home and shaved her down, because of matting. After a couple of days, she was a changed dog! Where at first she would come up to you in a somewhat submissive approach, hunched very low to the ground, she now bounded towards me with an exuberance you'd never thought she could have! Amazing what a "job" can do for a dog. :) People say that pyrs are extremely smart and instinctively know that they are supposed to be doing something. She sure did. At her old home she never had anything to do and it showed in her disposition.
